The adrenaline rush
Paragliding at Atibie, the Mountain Biking Challenge, canopy walks and hikes to the Nkofieho Caves and Bruku Rocks.
Kwahu Easter started as a family homecoming. Today it fills twelve towns on the Kwahu Plateau with a million visitors over four days: sport, culture, faith, food and West Africa's only paragliding festival.
Kwahu Plateau · Eastern RegionEvery Easter, Kwahu people living in Accra, Kumasi and abroad go home. What began as family reunions on the ridge grew, year on year, into street carnivals, durbars, football galas, bible quizzes and concerts. In 2005 the Ghana Tourism Authority added paragliding off Odweanoma Mountain, and the weekend became a national event.
The towns each play a part. Nkawkaw is the gateway at the foot of the scarp. Mpraeso hosts the Durbar of Chiefs. Obomeng is the street-bash capital. Atibie holds the paragliding take-off. Abetifi, the highest town in Ghana, hosts the Sunday parties, and Nkwatia has the big hotels and the Freedom Hills Dome.
KwahuEaster.com is the festival's all-in-one compass: the schedule, the programme, a verified directory of where to stay, eat and party, and the official media. It is run independently from Nkawkaw and works with organisers, radio stations and the Traditional Council to keep information current.
